Anne Lamott
I spent the better part of last week taking in the wisdom of Anne Lamott. It is only recently that I’ve even heard of Anne, but everything I read about her writing placed her on my “must read” list. So, I went to the library and picked up Bird by Bird, her book on the writing life, and Traveling Mercies on tape. I quickly read Bird by Bird, which was so wonderful for me to go through, it helped me gain more understanding about my own writing.
I devoured Traveling Mercies in a day! I loved hearing her stories, they are so real, not sugar-coated. She has a great way of telling a story about life including the pain, hurt, confusion, humor, and God. I liked it so much that I wanted more and went back to the library to get Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith which is similar to Traveling Mercies in that it is a collection of stories about life and faith. I really recommend going to the library and getting these books on tape because Anne is the narrator, its was like she was sitting in my living room telling me about her journey. I was very encouraged by her stories as I realized, once again, I am not alone.
