Weekend

Posted by alicia on Sep 29, 2006 in Life

We are in Narrows for the weekend.  We haven’t been here since the twins were born in May.  They have grown so much and Landon has too.  I can’t believe it has been so long since I’ve seen my family.  Today I am going over to Blacksburg to have lunch with Jarrett.  Then I plan to spend the rest of the afternoon resting.  Work was a little stressful this week, so I’m glad to have today off and to be resting.  Tomorrow we are going to the Va Tech football game!  I am excited about the game.  I haven’t been to a Va Tech game since before Dan & I were married!  I hope it will be a good game and we will have fun.  Also, while in town I may visit with one of my high school friends who had a baby this week.  However, I’m still not sure because we are overflowing with babies here.  I don’t know how much more baby time I can handle and we’ve only been here for a few hours.

Last night before we left a neighbor stopped by to look at the kittens.  He didn’t take one and I doubt he’ll be back.  I guess he thought they were too young.  So, we still have 5 kittens……….please….take one…two…or….five…………help us……..

Friday Night-life

Posted by alicia on Sep 24, 2006 in Life

One of my co-workers, David, is currently performing in Agatha Christie’s Mousetrap at the Hanover Tavern. On Friday David invited Dan & me to the play. It was such a fun show and we had a great time. I would have enjoyed the show even if I didn’t know one of the actors. But, I get so excited when I see someone I know doing something that makes them come alive. It was obvious that acting makes David come alive. Dan & I have been talking about that a lot today and he reminded me of a quote by Harold Whitman:

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

Kittens Update

Posted by alicia on Sep 20, 2006 in Life

Dan was able to catch another kitten that we weren’t able to get over the weekend. Then we took all 5 kittens to the vet. Everyone is healthy and now dewormed, flea treated, and gender identified.  The vet was very kind and let us borrow a cat condo so the kittens are more comfortable. Feel free to come by and take a look at them.

Kittens!

Posted by alicia on Sep 15, 2006 in Life

As we were leaving the house this evening we heard a little “meow” coming from the neighboring abandoned house. We tip-toed over there and discovered Pip (our favorite stray cat) nursing her adorable babies. Tomorrow we are going to try to bring them inside or do something so that we can make sure all the kittens find a good, loving home. SO……if you or anyone you know would like to have a kitten, let us know. I’ll try to take a picture of them and post it tomorrow.

Eavesdropping

Posted by alicia on Sep 10, 2006 in Life

Friday night Dan & I walked to Captain Buzzy’s for some coffee before having a delicious dinner at the Hill Cafe. While at Buzzy’s we both picked up a new Richmond magazine called Brick. Nothing really stood out to me in the zine, except for a little question at the bottom of the last page. I read it and knew instantly that it would make a great question for a writing exercise. I haven’t used it yet, but thought I’d share it:

Imagine you overhear a whispered converstaion that changes your life for the better. What would it be about?

Praise Baby Jesus for answered prayers!!!!!!

Posted by alicia on Sep 5, 2006 in Life

When I woke up this morning I knew that this day was going to be special. I could feel something good inside me. I chalked it up to a restful weekend, but now I realize what it was.

One day, many months ago, my heart was broken. Since then I’ve been praying and waiting, praying and waiting, praying and waiting for this day to come….the day that Jen Lemen came back!!!!!!!!

My Week

Posted by alicia on Sep 2, 2006 in Life

I sat down several times this week to write about all that has gone on this week, but each time I wrote a couple of sentences and had to stop.  This has been a challenging week, the hardest that I remember in recent months.  I’m sure most of you also read Dan’s blog and know about the murder on our street.  There has also been an increase in break-ins in the neighborhood and it has been difficult to hear our neighbor’s stories as they deal with the invasion of privacy and loss of things.  However, I think it is more difficult to hear some of our neighbors respond with violent attitudes.  Then we suffered water damage in yesterday’s storm.  Water leaked in through the siding and damaged the walls in our great room, kitchen, and one of the bedrooms upstairs.  I guess the stress of the week and the storm was too much for us.  We asked my mom and grandmother to stay at home instead of coming to visit us, though it has been over 3 months since I’ve seen them.  Needless to say, I’m a little bummed today.   So, I’m going to spend my bummy day in comfy clothes, drinking warm tea, and reading.  At least the week will end with some much needed me time.
