Georgetown Shopping: Everything You Need to Know During Covid

Thinking about a shopping spree in Georgetown, DC? This blog post will tell you everything you need to know before you go. Georgetown has a mandatory mask order which means you must wear a mask while walking around outside, while shopping, and while ordering at a restaurant. Each shop has an employee standing by the door checking that people have masks on and will sometimes ask you to sanitize your hands upon entering the store. Most fashion and home stores are open; however, if you have a specific store you want to check out, I recommend looking up their hours ahead of time. Due to Covid, some stores have reduced their operating hours. Many restaurants have outdoor seating options in Georgetown. If you want to eat at a restaurant on the main street (M street) beware that your table will most likely be right next to the street traffic.

Shopping

Georgetown has nice boutiques and big chain stores ranging from specialty stores to fashion stores and home stores. For a list of all the stores in Georgetown check out this directory on their website. Some athletic brands you will find in Georgetown are Athleta, Lululemon, Nike, The Georgetown Running Company, Outdoor Voices, and Patagonia. If you are in need of shoes you can find Vans, Soulier Shoes, Allbirds, and Dr. Martens stores in Georgetown. My favorite women’s clothing stores in Georgetown are Anthropologie, Aritzia, Intermix, COS, and South Moon Under.

Dining

Many Georgetown restaurants offer outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. Be mindful of restaurants on M Street if you want to partake in outdoor dining because most of the tables are alongside the road which has a lot of traffic. I recommend checking out the restaurants on the side streets. Specifically, 31st street has nice restaurants with pleasant outdoor dining experiences. Check out the directory of Georgetown restaurants here. There are also grab-and-go places such as Sweetgreen and South Block which are great options if you want to grab food and then find a bench along the waterfront.

Concluding Remarks

Last Tuesday I walked and shopped throughout Georgetown. It felt like a ghost town compared to how it usually is during non-Covid times. On the bright side, this made shopping very enjoyable as there were barely any people in the stores and provided a ‘private shopping’ experience. This also made walking on the sidewalks much easier. The sidewalks are narrow, and during the summer months, the sidewalks can become so crowded it is sometimes easier to pass people by walking in the streets. If you can get past the fact that there are not many people out, Georgetown is still the best place to go shopping in DC. Georgetown seems to be the place where most stores are open and operating during Covid.
