Sustainable Clothes You Need For This Back-to-School Season

Back-to-School season is upon us and with it comes the question: What do I wear? It’s 2020 and if you are looking to refresh your wardrobe this season you should purchase sustainably. This post is about affordable, sustainable, everyday basics that you can throw on in the morning while running out the door. Easily pair these pieces with any shoes or accessories and add them to your closet for a more sustainable 2020!

Classic Look: Jeans and a Cute Tee

A great pair of jeans is a back to school staple that will complete any outfit all year long. I recommend owning a medium wash and a dark wash pair; however, if you can only have one go with the medium wash. A medium wash pair of jeans is perfect to throw on any day and will keep your outfits looking casual while put together. A darker wash will elevate your look and make it a little more formal — as formal as jeans can get. Manufacturing one pair of jeans can use up to 1,800 gallons of water. This works out to around 500 billion gallons of water to make the jeans sold in one year in the USA. I recommend looking at denim from Levi’s or Boyish.

In order to be more sustainable Levi’s is reducing their water and energy consumption during production. Levi’s newest jeans are made from Circulose which is a sustainably made textile equivalent to virgin fibers. Levi’s Wellthread line weaves organic cotton with Circulose into a fabric for new clothes. Boyish is another sustainable denim company which uses 1/3 of the water needed to make a pair of jeans and they recycle the water they use in order to decrease pollution. Here are my recommendations for a great jeans that you can pull out of your closet while rushing to get ready in the morning:

Sustainable Tees

Finding affordable, sustainable tee-shirts is an easy feat as many sustainable brands cater towards casual, cotton designs. Everlane is a sustainable clothing brand that has perfect tees made with 60% recycled cotton. Classic tees are great to throw on in the morning and will keep you comfy all day. Tuck them into your jeans and add a cute belt for a more put together look. Refresh your closet with these affordable sustainable tees:

Good ideas and recommendations! Do you have any suggestions for Jeans that are made in the USA? I try to buy USA made when I can even if it costs more. I did not know so much water was used to make jeans 😩

Finding affordable women’s denim that is made in the USA is tough! Here are my recommendations.
      – For Jeans under $100:
Dearborn Denim & Apparel These jeans are made in Chicago and cost between $60-$80 full price. The brand prides itself in the comfort and fit of their jeans; however, there are not many styles and washes to choose from.

      – For Jeans around $100:
NYDJ (Not Your Daughters Jeans) These jeans are made in LA and cost between $100-$140 full price. The brand also prides itself on the fit of their jeans and claim their jeans “make every woman feel comfortable and confident.” There are lots of styles to choose from and the company always seems to have sales/discounts running.

      – For Luxury Denim:
Imogene & Willie These jeans are made in Nashville and cost $200+, however they can be found for sale at around $150. These jeans come in classic styles and washes. One thing that sets this brand apart is its complimentary custom hemming service provided with the purchase of any of pair of jeans.

Another honorary mention which is unfortunately not manufactured in the USA is Warp + Weft. This is a sustainable denim brand offering luxury jeans under $100. They have many styles to choose from so I thought I would just include them in case. My top tip is to always wait for sales because most jeans will go on sale eventually, and some websites offer promotions where if you sign up for their emails they will give you 10-20% off your purchase.

  3. Alicia te felicito , todos los exitos.
