A Blog Post Dedicated To My Biggest Supporter, My Grandma

My grandma gave this shirt to my mom, who gave it to me. I remember sitting in my mom’s room, watching her clean out her closet and offering me the shirt. At first, I was on the fence about the shirt and didn’t want to add more clothing to my wardrobe if I wasn’t going to wear it. I tried on the shirt and decided to keep it. I brought it with me to London and it quickly became one of my favourite shirts to wear on a night out. I have worn this shirt on many dates with different boys, to get drinks with old friends, and to celebrate a new friend’s birthday. If I don’t know what to wear on a night out, I wear this shirt with black skinny jeans and grey thigh-high boots. This is an iconic shirt that no one else has, and I always think of my grandma when I wear it.

This shirt is the only vintage clothing that I own, and surprisingly it’s one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe. Owning and loving this shirt gives me a greater appreciation for vintage clothing because wearing vintage clothing is like giving another life to a piece of clothing. I think about how my grandma may have worn this shirt on a date and how I am wearing the same shirt on a date decades later. I have always loved the idea of vintage wedding dresses being worn by multiple women to completely different weddings and adding a story to the dress every time it was worn.

My grandma was always my biggest supporter of my blog and left the very first comment on my first blog post two years ago. I write these blog posts in honour of you and promise to wear your shirt on exciting adventures in London.

XO, Alicia
