The Ultimate Guide to Shopping on Newbury Street

Whenever you ask someone where to go shopping in Boston, the first thing you will hear about is Newbury street. Newbury street is a one-mile-long street filled with shops and restaurants located in the Back Bay area of Boston. You can easily spend a day on Newbury street checking out the cute boutiques and specialty restaurants. This blog post is my ultimate guide to shopping on Newbury street and will give you the inside scoop on where to go and where to skip.

Starting off, I recommend starting on the western side of Newbury street (where Newbury intersects Massachusetts Ave.). If you are taking the T to go shopping, the Hynes Convention Center stop on the green line drops you off right at the start of Newbury street. If you are spending a day on Newbury street I recommend walking down one side of the road (heading east) and then coming back on the other side of the road (heading west). When it comes to the actual stores on Newbury street there is a good mix of mainstream stores (Madewell, Zara, Nike) as well as some super cute boutiques. As I mature with my style, I find myself appreciating smaller boutiques over big commercial stores and Newbury accommodates all tastes.

Boutiques

There are so many one-of-a-kind boutiques on Newbury street which have everything you could ever need. Some of my favorites are Lipstick, Lure, and Crush. Lipstick has cute and affordable summer tops and dresses. Beware the fitting rooms are just a curtain in the corner of the store, but the prices are worth it at this boutique. Lure Boutique has any dress you could ever need. Lure has a large selection of short party dresses in addition to black tie gowns. If you are looking for innovative and sustainable styles, check out Paridaez. Paridaez specializes in clothing that can be worn in multiple ways so you can wear one outfit from day to night.

Big Brands

If you love shopping at big brand-name stores, Newbury has a good selection to choose from. Well-known women’s clothing stores available are Zara, Anthropologie, Aritzia, H&M, Free People. If you are looking for athletic clothing, there are stores like Lululemon, Athleta, and Nike. The two days I visited Zara there was a line to get in and a long line for the cash register. The Zara store on Newbury is small compared to its other locations but demand seems high so I recommend getting there early in the morning for the fastest service. My usual favorite stores, Anthropologie and Aritzia seemed like a letdown after visiting the local boutiques, so I recommend sticking to the boutiques to find some hidden gems.

Prudential Center

The Prudential Center is a mall located right off Newbury street. The mall is filled with your usual mall shops and is nothing to get too excited about. If you are shopping on a rainy day, then I recommend dropping by to walk around. However, sunny days are meant to be spent on Newbury popping into local shops and taking in the sunshine. In conclusion, stick to the main street unless there is a store in Prudential that you really want to visit.

I hope you have fun shopping and discover some hidden gems.

XO, Alicia

I enjoy reading your comments. It seems you are at my side commenting on fashion. It is always good to catch the words “sustainable fashion”. Very much needed in today’s world.
