The Ultimate Guide to Shopping in Hanover, New Hampshire

Hanover, New Hampshire is a little New England town synonymous with Dartmouth College. This blog post will tell you everything you need to know about the shopping scene in Hanover and is perfect for whenever you are passing through. Hanover has a mix of independent boutiques, commercial stores, and college apparel stores. The boutiques are Indigo, The Ivy Edit, and The J List. The commercial stores are Fat Face, J. Crew, J McLaughlin, and Talbots. The college apparel stores are The Dartmouth Co-op and Traditionally Trendy. If you are looking for an outfit, you should be able to find it in one of the seven fashion stores or two college stores in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Commercial Brand Names

Most people know what type of clothing is sold at Fat Face, J. Crew, J McLaughlin, and Talbots, so I will briefly discuss these stores. If you are looking for suiting, check out J. Crew. J McLaughlin and Talbots offer business casual outfits; however, if you are looking for a basic business professional look, J. Crew will be your best bet. J. Crew is a great store to check out if you are a college student looking to purchase your first suit for a class presentation or job interview. J McLaughlin and Talbots generally cater to the older demographic of women, while the independent boutiques generally cater to younger women/teenagers. Fat Face stands out as it offers different clothing from its three other commercial brand-named competitors. Fat Face fits perfectly into the New Hampshire clothing market and gives off the same vibe as Patagonia and L.L.Bean. Fat Face focuses on everyday clothing as opposed to outdoor gear.

Independent Boutiques

Hanover, New Hampshire offers three independent clothing boutiques to shop from. Each has their own vibe and offer different clothing.

Indigo

Indigo offers casual clothing at a luxury price tag. Picture cashmere sweaters, jeans, and casual dresses starting at $100 apiece. Indigo carries brand names such as AG Denim, Birkenstock, Patagonia, and Canada Goose. Indigo is popular among local high schoolers and college kids and can be a great place to find a dress for a date night or local event.

Hours:

Monday – Saturday: 10am – 5pm

Sunday: 11am – 4pm

The Ivy Edit

The Ivy Edit reminds me of Australian brands such as Princess Polly and White Fox Boutique. Two words used to describe this boutique are CROP TOPS. This store has cute clothes, but most pieces are extremely cropped or short which does not work for me (I am 5’10”). The Ivy Edit is perfect for high school and college kids that are not afraid to show some skin in a cute and girly kind of way. A huge pro to this boutique is that it is open until 6pm! Almost every store in Hanover closes at 5pm which seems way too early, so The Ivy Edit’s hours give it major bonus points. You will find Free People branded clothing sold at this boutique. Founders, Kim & Allison Smith are featured in the image.

Hours:

Monday – Friday: 10am – 6pm

Saturday – Sunday: 11am – 5pm

The J List

The J List is a cute boutique that offers women’s clothing, baby items, and beautiful gifts. The J List claims to “work hard to find clothing that is made by women-owned companies, with organic and/or sustainable materials, made in the USA, machine washable and practical for the way we live.” The J List offers great every day, New England-y, clothes at a reasonable price point. What really stands out about The J List are their gift options. You can find the perfect gift for anyone in your life at this little boutique.

Hours:

Monday – Friday: 10am – 5pm

Saturday: 10am – 6pm

Sunday: Closed

College Apparel

If you are looking for Dartmouth College apparel for game days or just to lounge around in, look no further than The Dartmouth Co-op and Traditionally Trendy. These two stores offer anything “Dartmouth” you can think of.

Happy Shopping in Hanover, New Hampshire!
