One Year Review of SHAPE Magazine: Is It Worth It?

Last year I was gifted a year-long subscription to SHAPE magazine. This blog post will be a comprehensive review of the magazine and will discuss whether or not I recommend subscribing to SHAPE magazine.

SHAPE magazine prints 10 issues a year and retails for $10 a year from Magazine Store (link). Use code “THANKS20” for 20% off a magazine purchase from Magazine Store. On the Magazine Store website, SHAPE magazine has a 4.5-star rating and 354 customer reviews. SHAPE magazine calls itself a fitness magazine for women, but I argue that SHAPE magazine is really a fashion and lifestyle magazine. For the past 7 years, Elizabeth Goodman Artis has been the editor-in-chief of the magazine. In the September 2021 issue, SHAPE magazine announced a new editor-in-chief, Liz Vaccariello. The September 2021 issue is largely the same as the previous issues, but I do notice more of an emphasis placed on inclusivity and referencing of reputable sources after the change in editor-in-chief. =

Each SHAPE issue discusses fashion, beauty, workouts, mental health, food, and inspirational women. SHAPE is a very well-rounded magazine and does not linger for too long on any one topic. SHAPE magazine also emphasizes sustainable companies; however, many of these companies are luxury brands and therefore are not easily accessible by the public.

My favorite cover from the past year was the June 2021 issue, featuring Rose Byrne. Rose Byrne is wearing a beautiful Zimmermann top, and the hair, makeup, and lighting is top notch. The cover calls out mental health and fitness articles within the magazine. Also featured in the June issue are beauty and skincare articles as well as recipies and healthy food tips.

I have not subscribed to print magazines in many years; however, after COVID I was re-inspired to try out print magazines. I was ultimately gifted three magazine subscriptions last year, and SHAPE stands out as a top magazine. Whenever I receive the three magazines in the mail I always gravitate towards reading SHAPE magazine first. I will reveal the other competing magazines in future blog posts…stay tuned! I was first drawn to magazines that solely focused on fashion, but I later realized that what I really want and enjoy reading is a well-rounded magazine. SHAPE magazine covers current fashion trends and introduced me to new fashion brands while also providing mood-boosting tips and skincare advice. SHAPE is worth it and is exciting to receive in the mail. At $10 a year I would give SHAPE magazine a go, you will not regret it!

Happy Reading! XO, Alicia

Hmmm! This is certainly a very different but interesting topic. Fashion to magazines. Now I am looking forward to what lies ahead. I had not heard of SHAPE magazine before. I will be looking forward to what comes next.
