Ultimate Guide to Shopping in West London: Westfield & Notting Hill

This past Saturday, I trekked over to Notting Hill to visit Portobello market and assess the shopping scene in west London. I window shopped in Notting Hill and then walked to Westfield London. This is my ultimate guide for spending a day shopping in west London.

Portobello Market

I started the day by taking the tube to Notting Hill Gate station and following the signs to Portobello Market. It is extremely easy to find your way without a map, just follow the signs and masses of people! The walk from the station to Portobello road is filled with vintage and jewellery shops. I was surprised by how much jewellery I saw for sale! If you are looking for jewellery in London, check out the Notting Hill area for many jewellery shops clustered together. The market fills the entire Portobello road. You will find vintage pieces, antiques, and home accessories in the market and roadside shops. If you want to go vintage shopping and cannot make it over to Brick Lane / East London, I would recommend checking out the vintage shops on Portobello road.

Notting Hill

Walk to Westbourne Grove if you want high-end, mainstream boutiques. There are fewer people over here and you will enjoy a more peaceful shopping experience.

Westfield London

After walking around Notting Hill I walked to Westfield London. I heard of Westfield mall when I first moved to London, but never visited it because it is out of the way if you are not already in west London. Westfield reminded me of a classic large American mall. It was nice and new inside, but nothing really special. I would not return because I am not a mall person and many of the stores have stand-alone locations throughout London. However, if you want a rainy day activity where you can get your steps in or spend a day shopping, Westfield London could be fun. I spotted Abercrombie and Fitch in the mall and had to go in after watching the Netflix documentary. Some of the clothes were nice but expensive for what you are buying and reminded me of pieces you can find for cheaper at Zara.

Happy shopping in West London!
