Standout Shows From NYFW Fall/Winter 2021: Everything You Need to Know

This year New York Fashion Week ran from February 14 – 18. Runway, film, special programming, and exclusive experiences can all be found here: NYFW. Some common trends spotted among the shows were oversized dress shirts, oversized suiting, and brown fabrics. Maybe one-day people will return to the office and wear suiting, but for now, everyone is enjoying their sweat sets. I think designers are looking to the future date when people will return to the office, and are designing clothes that can be transition pieces — loose suits and loose dress shirts help people transition back to normal office wear. I also noticed a lot of designers incorporating the color brown into their collections. This is not surprising as brown clothes became very popular this fall and winter season. I definitely see the color brown making another comeback next fall and winter. Now on to my favorite STANDOUT shows from New York Fashion Week!!

Bronx and Banco

Bronx and Banco started with a bang! The first woman down the catwalk was modeling a black floor-length velvet dress with cutouts outlined by diamonds. This dress set the tone for the entire show which featured elegant party dresses. Sometimes all you need is some glitter and sparkles in your life and Bronx and Banco delivered. The dresses screamed “wear me out dancing” once the pandemic is over. Some of the dresses reminded me of flapper dresses which could be a reference to the roaring 20s and how the world could experience another roaring 20s once the pandemic is over.

Raisavanessa

Raisavanessa is another standout show that featured glamorous, couture dresses that make you want to go out and have fun while feeling like a queen. The show starts with a mini brown collection featuring many pieces with different fabrics and textures all in brown hues. The show then transitions into couture suiting and dresses. The collection features large geometric shapes. Many models are wearing belts with a large geometric clasp, sweaters with large geometric buttons, or just fabric with geometric patterns. The collection has many fabrics consisting of liquid latex, tweed, and glitter. This was a designer who stuck out to me during NYFW spring/summer 2021, and it stood out again.

Adeam

Watching the Adeam fashion show was a very calming experience. The music, the set, and the comfy-looking clothes came together for a fantastic experience. The collection featured oversized cardigans paired with collared shirts, cropped sweatshirts with fitted detailing around the waistband, and collared shirts with cutouts. The collection featured basic pieces with small details which elevated the looks. The clothes look like the perfect transition pieces to wear when transitioning from sweatsuits back to office clothes.

RVNG

RVNG designed some beautiful clothes but chose models who did not know how to walk!! It was painful to watch the models walk during the show; luckily for RVNG, the clothes were beautiful enough to pay attention to. This was another show which featured oversized suiting and couture dresses. The show started out with suiting and short dresses then transitioned into a display of ball gowns. Lots of shimmery fabric was used and the collection as a whole featured a lot of color (blues, purples, muted yellows).
