Trend Watch: Monochromatic Outfits for Fall 2020

Monochromatic outfits look good any season, but this autumn they are a hot trend to watch out for! Covid-19 and subsequential quarantine brought on a wave of matching sweatsuits. This fall I predict the matching-set trend will continue and will expand into streetwear and formal wear. Monochromatic outfits will be seen in the classic fall colors: black, grey, taupe, and beige. However, fashion weeks displaying fall/winter 2020 looks showed a lot of jewel-toned outfits which are the best colors to work with when styling a monochromatic look. Jewel-toned monochromatic outfits to watch out for include citrine, amethyst, emerald, ruby, and sapphire colors. Building outfits with jewel-toned colors will add depth and dimension to any fall look. Here are some inspiration photos for outfits to recreate and watch out for this fall:

These outfits are easily worn from daytime to night time and are perfect for a crisp fall day. Monochromatic looks are a great way to look dressed up for an event without having to wear a dress. Dress down your look with casual shoes/pieces. Take inspiration from the monochromatic trend and wear a monochromatic sweatsuit or matching leisurewear set. Putting on a coordinating outfit, no matter what style, will make you feel more put together. Feeling good in what you are wearing will make you more productive even when working from home!

Wearing a monochromatic outfit can be a daunting task if you previously believed you should never wear color-on-color. A tip to making monochromatic work is to mix textures within your outfit. For example, leather trousers with a sweater or corduroy trousers with a silky top. Another tip is to keep your accessories minimal and neutral (sticking to brown/black bags and metal toned jewelry). If you are still questioning whether or not you can pull off a monochromatic outfit I recommend ordering a matching set of leisurewear. Quarantine made matching sets rise in popularity, and now they are easy to find in any style or color. Trying on a monochromatic outfit (even a leisurewear one) will boost your confidence and you may even find yourself wanting to wear monochromatic looks out and about. The most important tip of all is to wear your outfit with confidence because you can make anything look good!
