The Ultimate Wool Coats for Winter 2023

I bought an Aritzia parka in 2016 and have worn the coat religiously for the past seven years. The Aritzia parka is probably the best investment piece I have in my wardrobe and I still love it to this day. Canadians have mastered the art of creating a warm winter coat. This year I became infatuated with long wool coats. This autumn, London has been overrun with trench coats and will soon become overrun with long wool coats. This is the first year I crave something different in my winter wardrobe and want to look into adding a wool coat to collection.

Criteria for my perfect winter coat:

  • Must be long — I love the way a below-the-knee wool coat looks.
  • No belt — I have a belt on my trench coat and use it 15% of the time. The other 85% of the time it is tucked into my pockets. I love the sleek and sophisticated look of a wool coat without a belt.
  • Must have perfectly placed pockets — As a girl with constantly cold hands, having pockets that feel like they are at the perfect height for my arms is essential.
  • A neutral colour that is not black — Black wool coats are a magnet for dust and show everything. I want a neutral-coloured coat that I can wear for years.

I searched the internet with my criteria in mind and quickly realized that it is increasinly difficult to find an affordable 100% wool coat. The cost of manufacturing is increasing and many fashion brands are making wool blend coats to keep their prices down. Idealy I would love to invest in a 100% wool coat that I will keep forever. After searching for a long time I realized that Aritzia still has my heart and has the best wool coats on the market. Keep reading for ultimate wool coats on the market for under $500.
